Subcon Show 2018 is mere weeks away and this year may be the biggest event yet. UK’s premier subcontract manufacturing supply chain show will run alongside The Engineering Expo, a free to attend 3-day educational program.

Thursday 5 June sees the 2018 Subcon show kick off at the Birmingham NEC displaying the best of British manufacturing. Network with top industry leaders and international suppliers looking to help UK manufacturers optimise their supply chain strategies.

Subcon Show 2018 And The Engineer Expo

The show will feature over 400 exhibitors and the NEC is expecting 3,500 visitors offering unique business development opportunities. Subcontract manufacturing professionals from a wide variety of industry sectors will be in attendance. Those exhibiting include machining, assembly work, metal forming, surface engineering, casting and forging, plastic moulding, composites and electronics.

Alongside The Engineer Expo, discover the right suppliers to help optimise your productivity and remain competitive in a global market. Access both events with one badge and source the latest advanced engineering technologies, products and services and optimise production in manufacturing.

The Engineer Conference is free and includes a three-day, six-track, 36-session program in two theatres. The Engineer editor, Jon Excell, chose all the content topics from robotics, cobotics and AI, to transformative technology, rock star materials and lightweighting.

Engineers and industry leaders will reveal compelling stories behind some of the UK’s most interesting engineering and manufacturing projects. Among these are Nadine Stech with her award-winning Linx prosthetic leg, Jaguar Land Rover’s head of autonomous vehicles and the keynote speaker, Paul Stein from Rolls Royce.

Subcon Survey: Increasing The Number Of Young People And Women In Engineering

A Subcon survey revealed concerns among UK Manufacturers around the challenges to attract more women and young people. Nearly 63 per cent of respondents believed “increasing the number of young people working in the engineering industry” is very important. In addition, 24 per cent thought “increasing the number of women working in the engineering industry” is equally essential. Many believed that Government and business need to do more together to increase the presence of women in the industry.

We also wrote an article on Opportunities in Advanced Engineering explaining Britain’s lack of women in engineering. You might find it interesting with a few relevant points for discussion.

Subcon Survey: Is UK manufacturing really ignorant to Industry 4.0 or just blinded by buzzwords?

Research carried out earlier this year revealed that more than half of UK manufacturing and engineering businesses don’t know what Industry 4.0 is. That said, the survey also indicated that even with lack of understanding, these businesses have already invested in fourth industrial revolution technologies. Some of these include automation, simulation and 3D printing.
